REASONS BEHIND OUR FORGETFULNESS


After reading for hours, for probably tests,examinations or interview and one end up not remembering all one read, can be annoying ...or probably entering into the kitchen or some other places and all of sudden you are trying to remember why you there in the first place can be funny. The brain controls our memory but how the memory of the brain works can sometimes be individually controlled. Not everyone forget things, research has shown that a particular type of memory called Eidetic memory exists. Eidetic memory is an ability to recall images, sounds, or objects in memory after only a few instants of exposure, with high precision for some time after exposure,without using mnemonics. It occurs in a small number of children and generally is not found in adults. Except for this, adult are prone to forget details of somethings. Here are some of the reasons why we tend to forget things;
1. Failure to store information in memory in the first place
2. Failure to retrieve information from the memory
3. Interference of memories competing with other memories
4. Intentionally forgetting things associated with a trouble or traumatic event
4. Decay theory of forgetting- research has shown that information stored in short-term memory last for 5-30s and if it's not rehearsed,the memory fades. It has also stated that, the length of time between the memory and recalling that information, determines whether the information will be retained or forgotten.

Here are also ways to help remember information:
1. Try to limit interference - do one thing at a time , avoid wandering minds
2. Mentally rehearse what you are doing and hold it in mind until you are finished with the task
3. Train your brain to recall information by practicing or mnemonic strategy
4. Pay attention and be focused .

The above isn't a cure for forgetting information because our brain deliberately makes us forget things to prevent insanity. The human brain is still the most complex object on the face of the earth and we all function differently because we all have a unique brain.

HAPPINESS...

Often times when I check within, I just know for sure that the best way to live life ,is to be happy living life. This is because I keep learning everyday that happiness is not a goal, it's a by-product of a life well lived . It probably might not make sense to some and to others, it might . Have you felt happiness starved once in your life? If you have, then you should understand what that means. So many things happen around us and the best way to go about it ,is to know that being sad won't solve anything but when you are happy, you've won already. Some people somehow term happiness around someone such that when that one person fail in fulfilling what you want them for, you are sad. I beg to differ, it doesn't necessarily mean someone isnt suppose to make us happy , am just saying it shouldn't be built around one single person or one thing. Yes, being fulfilled in life or being successful can make you happy within and out but are we suppose to wait till then before we can say we are happy?

Life brings struggle, thrive and challenges at times, but there is still happiness in life ,although it depends on how well you living your life. Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect,it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections. Students worry too much about school and exams, graduates worry about jobs, meanwhile workers worry so much about bills and salary. While singles worry about getting married, married couples worry about their children, and even retiree also worry about when they will be paid but then when life gives us so many things to worry about, let's find those things that makes us happy and smile. Happiness is not the absence of problems or challenges it's the ability to deal with them. Your achievement , passion, hobbies, partner , jobs, belief, friends can make you happy but most importantly you can make yourself happy because happiness depends mostly on oneself. A happy life,is what makes you want to live more. It requires contentment ;be contented with what you have, being grateful ; grateful to life and what it brings and finally belief; belief in God ,keep believing ,be happy , don't get discouraged things will work out.
