Do you know that scientist has proven that 'one-third of our lives is spent sleeping'? Due to their single fact that a normal man (adult) sleeps 8hrs per day. I was about to fight it , so i did the maths, we have 24hrs in a day and so sleeping 8hrs out of it means one-third of it ,is truly spent sleeping by a normal man. I began to ask questions ,the ones you probably have right now ; how much of my life have I spent sleeping then? does it mean that we ain't suppose to sleep so that we can conserve more time for our lives? I wanted answers and so I decided to share my thought about it with you.
Sleep deprivation ,isn't the key because it has it's consequences ,of which some of it are as follows:
- It age the skin,
- Makes you forgetful (memory loss),
- Obesity risk increases ,
- Causes depression,
- Causes loss of brain tissue ,
- Stroke risk increases
- Increase risk of heart disease
- Risk of cancer is also high,
- Loss of immune function thereby increasing risk of death. E.t.c
Obviously, more harm is achieve when we deprive ourself the sleep we require. Sleeping also has so many functions in our lives which includes some of the following:
- It reduces individual's energy demand and expenditure due to the fact that during sleep , our core temperature is reduced by 1 degree making us use less energy (energy conservation theory)
- Sleep provide an opportunity for the body to repair and rejuvenate itself,
- During sleep , the body has a chance to replace body chemicals and repair muscles , other tissues and aging or dead cells,
- Sleep gives the brain opportunity to organize data to help find a solution to problem ,
- Growth hormones are released during sleep such that it helps us to grow.
All of these shows we indeed need to sleep. This piece is not to bring confusion to minds at all.
Just so you know , we sleep everyday and we can't finish sleeping as long as we are alive. The amount of sleep we need varies ,depending on multiple factor such as age ,physical condition,psychological condition on energy exerted. Know your type of person because sleep requirement ,depends on individual. Sleeping might not literally mean sleeping on the bed, might mean all those great ideas of ours we've been sleeping on , those great passion of ours or probably those great opportunities we allow sleep take from us . Be extraordinary in the right sense of it and Don't sleep away your life. You can't love success and love sleep at the same time . To succeed and accomplish your dreams in life ,you have to really work hard at it and which include making sacrifices 'Wake up with determination and go to sleep with satisfaction '. Sleep wisely today for your greater tomorrow.
